Older Adult Mental Health

Here at PsychologyCare we have a special interest in working with people over the age of 65 years. This stage of life is often neglected in the annals of psychological research and literature, which is a mistake as there are many common challenges that face us all as we age. A well-respected Rabbi once said: “Ageing takes courage.” There is so much truth in this statement and as a consequence, there exist a small number of psychologists who specialise in treating age-associated mental health issues. We have a shared aim of helping people in later life and their families maintain well-being, overcome problems and achieve maximum potential throughout their later years. Common problems addressed include:

  • Common Mental health issues such as depression and anxiety

  • Grief and Loss
  • Coping with and managing chronic illness.
  • Helping individuals and their families come to terms with diagnoses of age-related issues such as Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias.
  • Carer Stress
  • Adjustment to age-related stressors including marital/family conflict.
  • Change of roles: e.g. becoming a carer, loss of carer role, retirement etc.
  • Death/Dying/End of Life issues
